90th Anniversary Of The End Of WWI
Tomorrow marks the 90th anniversary of the end of the First World War.Which cost approximately 18 million lives. Just to illustrate how devastating certain aspects of this war actually were,on 1st July,1916 (the first day of the Battle Of The Somme), 20,000 British troops lost their lives. To put that in perspective, approximately 58,000 American soldiers died during the entire Vietnam War. Obviously there are very few who still survive who took part in the conflict, but wherever you are tomorrow, make sure you take a moment to reflect on the men and women who died serving their countries.

Well, rest assured, I'll be pausing for thought at 11. My Grandad fought in the Navy in WW2, and he was at Normany too, I think that's worth remembering for.

Good post Cuch. Those figures are a sobering thought.

Have my poppy on, how long it will stay on is another matter, stupid sticky thing.

The wearing of poppies is frowned upon over here by many,as Ireland was on the brink of a Civil War at the time, and the fact that Great Britain was it's mortal enemy at the time... However,it should be noted that over 210,000 Irishmen fought in the First World War,and 35,000 of these never made it back... If I had a poppy,I'd wear it...

I paid my respects, I feel better for doing so. I even found myself welling up too...
