Andrew Lloyd Webber
You can't have a theatre forum without a thread dedicated to the Grandaddy of musical theatre, the great and gifted but definitely slightly odd Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber. My personal favourite of his is The Phantom of the Opera, one of my favourite musicals of all time and lately adapted into a not-very-good film version. Seriously, if you like the film then you need to see the stage show. There's no comparison at all. This is the music responsible for my very suspect crush on Micheal Crawford (I know... so wrong but my goodness he has a seductive voice when he sings Music of the Night... *swoon*) Anyway, for those not in the know at all, Phantom is fantastic, a beautiful, moving and disturbing story of passion, hate, darkness and love. The music has got to be some of the best that Lord Lloyd Webber has ever written, even listening to it brings tears to my eyes and raises goosebumps all up and down the back of my neck. I think the grea-*test*-('") performance I've ever seen in a theatre was someone playing the Phantom. I've forgotten his name off the top of my head, I've got the programme at home somewhere, but it's indicative of the power of this show that it allows for such incredbly memorable performances. I'm not going to run through all of Lloyd Webbers work in one post (too long) but I'll just give special mention to my second favourite, the first musical I ever saw and therefore one that holds a special place in my heart... Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. This is a far more child-friendly show than Phantom. It's a good story and a brilliantly staged show with quirky music, colourful stage design and some very funny moments. As an introduction to musical theatre for a youngster (and I can only have been 3 or 4 when I first saw it with Phillip Schofield in the title role) it's brilliant. And even as an adult it's humuorous and clever with some truly catchy music. Currently enjoying a well-deserved resurgence in popularity after the TV reality show Any Dream Will Do found the newest leading man, Mr Lee Mead, there's never been a better time to go and see this show. (And this is only partly because Lee Mead is a very very attractive man who happens to be topless for a good 80% of the show...) He is also I think the best Joseph I've seen in the role (and that includes Jason Donavan aswell as good old Schofield). He has an amazing voice and fantastic stage presence. Go see it now. And please take me with you... :P

I think if I went with you KB the rest of the theatre would be drowning in drool! I know what you mean though, Joseph is spectacular. I went to see it years ago with some bloke that used to be a bad guy in Home and Away. Can't remember his name but I do remember his voice and his body. What a body!

Joseph is a bloody amazing musical. One of my favourites. Think I've seen it on stage about five times now. I was nearly in a school production once. It got cancelled because of a major teachers' strike.
