Looking forward to this one. Life on Mars was set when one of my brothers was born. This one's set when I was born. I don't actually remember 1981, but having two older brothers, I'm sure I'll see a lot more recognisable ephemera.

I look forwards to this one!! :D It'll be good to see Gene Hunt again, but even if it is the same as LOM, only in 1981. Oh, and remember they had the Trumpton tribute in LOM?? Well, I hear they have a similiar one lined up here, and it's a show that was VERY popular in 1981!! ;)

ON at 9!

I have it on auto Sky+, but I'm watching it anyway when it's on - have it on series link in case I'm out on a Thursday! Can't wait!

Not as good as Life on Mars at the moment but got to love the soundtrack and DCI Hunt

I enjoyed that. Would have liked a full rendition of the title song, tho. Loved the music every time Gene Hunt came on, like some sort of Messiah!

Gimli The Dwarf- 02-07-2008

I liked it a great deal. It does have a lot to live up to but, given time, I think it could easily equal life on Mars. I liked the fact that Sam was mentioned, both in the present and the past, I just think it's a shame that he died. I was hoping he'd still be working in Manchester, perhaps even married to Annie. His absence would still have been explained. I loved the bit with George and Zippy :D Anyone else think that Keeley Hawes looks a bit like Keira Knightley, except older, more attractive and a better actress?

Homer- 02-08-2008

Yep. She does. I thought it when I saw her in something a few years back, and Pixie mentioned it last night independently. To be fair, the 'better actress' bit isn't asking much, really... Although her performance in Atonement (while definitely not the best performance of the film) was definitely her best performance... But that's by the by. I'm looking forward to the rest of Ashes to Ashes for two reasons - 1, I loved Life on Mars and thought it was the best programme that the BBC has made in a long time. and 2, it's set in the year I was born!

Is that good? I can never tell these days!

Donald McKinney- 02-16-2008

Episode 2 was good, and it was set during the days leading up to the "fairy tale wedding" of Charles and Di. Plus, supermarkets of the 1980's were mentioned, Fine Fare, (which later became Gateway, then Somerfield), and Presto, (who later merged with Safeway, itself eaten up by Morrisons. :P)
