Born on a Monday and named Sunday
Nicole & Keith have a baby daughter What the hell is it with these celebs giving their children the most bizarre names? Apple Martin, Pilot Inspektor Lee, Princess Tiiami, Kal-El Cage. The list goes on. I'm all for unusual names but some of these are frankly a little silly. Thoughts anyone?

It does feel as the parents have got something to prove, but what's wrong with NORMAL names?? Plus, you get some who have names spelt funny. (If anything, giving your kids silly names should be put down as a form of child abuse.) But, there are times when it stops being stupid and becomes original, for example, take Frank Zappa, and the names of his 4 kids, Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen. :P

I'm all for originality but what if these kids don't want to have a life in the limelight? What if they just want to have a "normal" boring school existence? It's a bit hard when you're lumbered with a name that makes you stand out like a sore thumb.

That's very true, and it is a difficult situation for them. They're instantly in the public spotlight from birth, but silly names or not, it's still going to be difficult to get a stress-free education because one of your parents are famous...

I haven't got a problem with Sunday Rose, especially after reading up a bit on the life of Sunday Reed. The whole celebrity baby naming thing is a bit of double edged sword though. If they're naming their kids Apple, Brooklyn and Denim, the press have a field day because of it. But if they name their children Carol or John or Jane then they're being boring and unimaginative. They really can't win. It's worth bearing in mind that most names are biblical, botanical geographical and mythological. I remember when Moses Martin was born and the hoo har in the press... it's a biblical name, what's the problem with that? As for the "journos" nicknaming baby Urban Sunday Roast, haven't they got anything better to be reporting on? Or did I miss world peace happening on my holiday?

I am so giving my kids (should there ever be any) weird names.

I am so giving my kids (should there ever be any) weird names. What, like Welsh ones? :D

Bubba- 07-10-2008

Hell no, I want a chance of being able to pronounce them myself!

Cuchulainn- 07-10-2008

You could just find one you can pronounce and call 'em all that...

If I ever have kids I'm gonna do like the Beckhams and name em after where they've been concieved. They're going to be conceived in Scunthorpe. ;)

I quite like the name Sunday. Not that I want any kids, but if I ever did, LOTR names all the way!

Donald McKinney- 07-11-2008

That reminds me of a Two Ronnies sketch, where two men were named after places were conceived, and one of them was named Park Bench... :P
