Bugs in hospitals
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7170186.stm I honestly think that it's time matrons were brought back into hospitals and put in charge of their own cleaning staff. When little Homer was in hospital back last year, I was disgusted by the start of the Royal Gwent. It was just dirty, even the lifts were. I have vague memories when I was younger when in hospital there was a matron on the ward who could put the fear of God into you, but she ran a tight ship and the hall ways sparkeled. My Nana was seriously ill in hospital this time last year. We were told that she wasn't going to survive, she caught MRSA while being treated. She did pull through though, but she wouldn't have been fighting for her life in the first place if the place had been kept to a standard of some sort.

My uncle Eamonn contracted MRSA after having a hip replacement in Bristol...Spent the entire summer on antibiotics...

When I lived in Nottingham I had a friend who was a cleaner at Queens Medical Centre. Part of the reason there are so many bugs in hospitals is because they can't use bleach on the floors. Hospitals spend so much money on nice flooring that cleaners can't use strong chemicals on. Turns out the only place in Queens Med without MRSA is the morgue because that's the only place they're allowed to use bleach. Shame you can't ask for operations to take place in a morgue really.

A friend of the family caught MRSA from the hospital and they had to amputate her leg and her health got worse after. she passed away last year. Its down to contacting out the cleaning and trying to save money. Always a bad thing

My mother has always been a cleaner supervisor. She has never worked in a hospital though - knowing she could never stomach some of the things which require cleaning up. I once had to endure the embarressment of mum giving the staff in the hospital a right telling off over the state of the place, she frog matched some director about the place pointing out the area that disgusted her most. Ah....mum.

Mums are fab. If ever Erin needed an operation I'd demand they brought all the equipment to our house. I know full well it would be cleaner and I'm the laziest person when it comes to cleaning possible!
