Doctor Who Ok, ok. Let’s start off with a brief history of the good Doctor. He is, quite obviously, an alien time traveller from the planet Gallifrey (in the constellation of Kasterborous). His people style themselves as Time Lords, after the invention of time travel by one of Gallifrey’s grea-*test*-('") ever scientists – Lord Rassilon.
Time Lords travel around in capsules known as Tardises. Tardis is an acronym for the term “Time and Relative Dimensions in Space”. A Tardis is dimensionally transcendental and can reconfigure its internal architecture at it’s operators will. It also has a cloaking device powered by a chameleon circuit, rendering it capable of changing its outer shell to blend in with its surroundings. It also exists in a State of Grace, meaning that weapons cannot be fired within its walls. Unfortunately, the Doctor’s Tardis is notoriously unreliable. It appears stuck in the form of a police box from the 1960’s and it is often difficult to navigate, often appearing in places that the Doctor does not expect.
Originally the Tardis fleet, and all of Gallifrey, drew their power from the Eye of Harmony. This was a captured black hole that lay at the heart of the Capitol, the main administrative centre of the planet. The star was detonated by Omega using a remote stellar manipulator, which was know as ‘The Hand of Omega’. Omega, and his ship the Eurydice, were considered lost in the subsequent explosion until it was found by the Doctor that he had been blasted into a universe of anti-matter. Since the destruction of Gallifrey in the Time War of the Daleks, it appears that the Doctor has adapted his Tardis to draw power from the universe itself.
Before it was destroyed by the Daleks, the ruling elite controlled the planet. These self-styled Time Lords were governed by a High Council, which in turn was led by an elected President.
A Gallifreyan has two hearts, a symbiotic nucleus that allows him to telepathically bond with a Tardis, a respiratory by-pass system, and the ability to regenerate into a new form if the body becomes old or is subjected to massive trauma. It can do this twelve times, meaning that a Time Lord can have 13 lives in total.
The Doctor has been portrayed by eleven different actors on television and once on the big screen.

Yay, shiny new forum and there's a familiar old friend already here in the form of a Doctor Who thread. Makes you just want to pet it like a soppy old sheep-dog. :D

Now how did I know that the first thread on the TV section of the forum would be by Dragonfall and be Dr Who? My psychic powers must be getting better!

Yeah, it's typical of Dragonfall to do a Doctor Who thread. I sense this becoming the biggest thread of the forum once the Christmas Special comes along!! :-P

Oooooh. Looks like we are getting Sontarans in series 4.
Taken from the BBC website
Christopher Ryan, best known for playing super-cool Mike in the classic comedy series The Young Ones, is set for a guest-starring role in an upcoming Series Four adventure.
Ryan will play a Sontaran leader in the story, due to begin filming in the next few weeks.
"I'm absolutely delighted to be appearing in this new Doctor Who," Chris revealed. "The last time I appeared in Doctor Who was in 1986, Colin Baker was the Doctor and I was still a Young One."
The story in question was the Trial Of A Time Lord, where Chris starred as the slug-like Mentor Kiv alongside Trevor Laird, who played Martha's dad in 2007.
If you know your Who lore, the Sontarans will need no introduction. If you're a newer viewer, however, you may not know that the Sontarans are amongst the grea-*test*-('") villains from the classic series of Doctor Who.
A military, warlike species, able to clone vast armies of themselves, the Sontarans are locked into an eternal struggle with their enemies the Rutans.

And the series 3 boxset is due for release on 5th November. Coincidentally, that happens to be my birthday. Guess what I'll be asking for....

Apparently Billie Piper is close to agreeing a deal to return in the final 3 parter next year.

I'd heard that she might be making a comeback but that was in connection with a rumour about a Dr Who film.
I'm not sure about it. It might spoil the emotion of the series 2 finale.

Best keep Rose in the alternate universe, it was such a bittersweet ending to the series. Then again, I can imagine another School Reunion type episode with the Doctor and Rose probabily 20 years down the line... :-P
