I can't allow myself to be open minded about a forth Terminator movie. I didn't like T3, it didn't feel the same as the first two.
Although I love T2 and at the time thought the T1000 was amazing (it was!), the character was very much a product of the technology of the day. And it started a chain reaction of coming up with a new Terminator design in each installment. Apparently, the original idea was to have Arnie play both good and bad Terminators (this is probably common knowledge). The point is, if a forth Terminator movie, set entirely in the future is made, will all the versions of the Terminator be in it (T-X and so on)? If so it will be totally different from the glimpses of the future we have seen in the first two movies, but then I the future is not set, I guess.
Slight SPOILER about The Sarah Connor Chronicles below!!!
Incidentally, I just watched a clip of Sarah Connor Chronicles on YouTube where Sarah, John and the Girlinator (Summer Glau) are visiting the widow of Miles Dyson and she's all like "I thought we changed the future" and Summer Glau says "We're back!" and her eyes flash blue for a second. It all seems a bit Terminator-lite to me. Not as good as Arnie ripping the flesh off his fore arm to reveal the endoskeleton "Now listen to me very carefully" in T2.

AICN is reporting that Christian Bale will play John Connor in the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. The movie is to be directed by music video director McG and expected to arrive in theaters in 2009. The story will focus on John Connor organizing the surviving humans to resist Skynet's army of robots.
:-o if that true it could be pretty badass  Shame about the director

Why, why?
Christian, don't do it! Walk away from the light!

Hmm, from Batman to the Terminator, sounds like a risky move to me.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed rumors that Christian Bale is in negotiations to star in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. McG is directing the movie, which is being made by Halcyon Company and Intermedia, and will be distributed by Warner Bros.
While it hasn't been released which role Bale will play, "T4's" story, by David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato and Michael Ferris, focuses on John Connor, now in his 30s, as he leads what is left of the human race against the machines.
Intermedia's Moritz Borman and Halcyon's Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson are producing.

Josh Brolin the New Terminator?
In a new interview with The Two-One-Three, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins director McG hinted that No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin might play the new Terminator opposite Christian Bale's John Connor.
"We're prepping the picture right now. The script is largely done, whether or not we're able to prep off of it, obviously we want to continue to work on it, punch it up and we're hoping for an expedient finish to the writer's strike. But I've got my fingers crossed that in a week or two it will be over," McG said.
He added that the fourth film will take place "post Judgment day. So there really is no continuation, you know what I mean? Its sort of a different animal, whereas the first two pictures on this thing are Terminators from the future, this picture takes place in 2019."
There's been rumors that John Connor will only be a small part in the film. Not so, says McG. "John Connor's a major player in it - Christian Bale's playing that part."
Asked who his "dream Terminator" would be? McG revealed, "...And there's guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don't know if they're exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor - we'll see."

I have a theory that this Terminator will be a poodle. Think about for a second and it makes perfect sense;
1st Terminator- Big huge muscleman
2nd Terminator- Quite a lot thinner and weedier bloke
3rd Terminator- A girl
Logically the 4th Terminator must either be a baby or a poodle, and seen as poodles can be quite a bit more vicious than babies it stands to reason that is what it will be. :D

At least the last Terminator was hot...

Is it too late to put the lid back on this can of worms?

I'm not sure yet. Depends on how grovelling you can make an apology.
