What are you reading take II
Same glitch as before so last post is copied here and the other thread deleted. Sorry guys Aura. Hehe - loads mate, loads! Ever read Transmetropolitan? IMO it beats Preacher every time (and this from someone who grew up a couple of miles from Garth Ennis!). In fact, there's quite a bit of Warren Ellis in my digital collection, and in addition to Transmet, I'd highly recommend the (unfortunately) short-lived Planetary - kinda like Fantastic 4 (minus spandex) meets the X-Files. Sandman should be absolutely compulsory (and if you've read it already I've also got the complete run of Lucifer). Also got the full 250-odd run of Hellblazer and assorted spin-offs like Books of Magic (which, had it been more high profile would have left the plagaristic Potter way behind). All Swamp Thing issues from Alan Moore onwards. Or if you prefer spandex-clad comic characters I've a pretty decent collection of (mainly) DC titles, particularly the Batman family. Also go tall the Infinite Crisis titles and the 52/Countdown follow-up (to date at least). The Marvel collection is building - got the full Civil War collection, the Planet Hulk/World War Hulk storyline and all the "Ultimate" universe releases (a grittier, alternative look at Marvel's major characters) - Avengers, Spider-Man and X-Men complete runs together with all the other titles If any of the above interest you let me know, or make a few suggestions and I'll see what I can do. PS - Aura, your CD's in the post! :D I'd be interested in that, Sharky. I've never read Sandman and Planetary sounds good. I'd also be interested in the Marvel/DC stuff. If it's not too much trouble that would be sweet! :) I'll PM you my address.

The request for digi-comics above was me by the way.

Gimli The Dwarf- 01-07-2008

I've just finished reading Roddy Doyle's The Van. It's taken me a few weeks, simply because I never seem to plan the day right and give myself time for some reading. I usually end up getting 10 minutes of reading done every few days Ah well. Anyway, Nicola was right, it was a very good book indeed, and it's quite possibly the funniest book I've read as well. I hardly ever smirk, never mind laugh, when reading comedic stories, but this had me in tears of mirth and gasping for breath a number of times.

Gimli, if you haven't already done so get your hands on The Snapper and The Committments - the other 2 books in Doyle's "Barrytown Trilogy". They're just as funny as The Van (if not funnier). All 3 have been successfully dramatised and are all well worth a look. I picked up a copy of the omnibus edition from Bargain Books some years ago. Started reading it on the bus on the way home and didn't put it down until later that evening by which time I'd read all 3 books!

I've not read the other two yet but I plan on getting them soon. I really only bought this one because I'd seen and liked the film adaptation. I love The Commitments film and, based on reading The Van, I can't wait to get hold of the book.

It's laugh out loud funny, but it's the only book i'm reading and reading lists of names is getting on my wick a bit. Gimli, I'm glad you really enjoyed reading The Van :D
