The Van is a good book, have you read The Commitments and The Snapper?
I bought this one today, i've only glanced through it so far but it's really funny

Nope, I've never read any Roddy Doyle books. I picked this up mainly because a) I liked the film and b) it was cheap (10p, can't say fairer than that!) I'll no doubt be on the lookout for others after I've read it

Not heard of this one, but I do like Ash's "Top 10 Of Everything" series. I'll have to see what this one is like.

Definitely look out for The Commitments and The Snapper. Those two with The Van are a trilogy. The Van is the last one. I enjoyed the film too.

I can't take Roddy Doyle seriously after Father Ted...
FR.TED: July 19th ... Why does that strike me as important?
DOUGAL: Yes!... Ah, July 19th, I wouldn't know Ted you big bollocks.
FR.TED: I'm sorry?
DOUGAL: I said 'I wouldn't know Ted, you big bollocks'.
FR.TED: Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again Dougal?
DOUGAL: I have yeah Ted, ya big gobshite.

Got this for a fiver today, bargain.
Electric Sheep- 12-30-2007
Are they worth reading Aura? I realise you probably haven't started these two yet but, assuming you've read The Night Watch, what sort of a read are they?
PrincessAura- 12-31-2007
Haven't read these two yet, but I bought them because the first one is so damned good. Like many others I bought the book after seeing the film, but it's a gripping story. If there has been anything lost in translation I'd be surprised. Well worth reading.
