The Sting (1973), Robert Redford and Paul Newman reunite after Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid with director George Roy Hill for this entertaining tale of con artists in 1930's Chicago. With small-time crook Johnny Hooker (Redford), and master con-artist Henry Gondorff (Newman), teaming up to bring down mobster Doyle Lonnigan (Robert Shaw), who killed one of their friends. An entertaining, funny, original and surprising little film, wonderfully recreating a bygone age, and with some wonderful performances to boot, it's no wonder it won so many Oscars. :P 5/5

I think he's in the first one. He's definately in the second
Yeah, it's in the first one as well. He does the Princess Blind Date style choices in the same scene where the Gingerbread Man is being interrogated.

Phenomenally well-made film detailing the titular slaying of Jesse James by his one-time compatriot and friend...
Great performances from the two leads, breathtaking cinematography and a suitably downbeat score...This is a truly beautiful movie...
Along with Zodiac and 30 Days Of Night, this is one of the few genuinely decent movies to come out this year...

Golden Compass
Very Overhyped so I was expecting more but found myself bored until the Polar Bear and Sam Elliot came into it. Very Average

From what I've seen it looks very similar to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. Would you put it in the same category...and do you think it would be a better experience if you've read the book or does it not matter either way?

It did seem very similar stylistically to The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe and I found that to film to be a bit cold and unengaging. I liked the book of The Golden Compass (or Northern Lights) and thought it was the best of the three novels. Still not sure about the film though, it might be a 'wait for the DVD' kind of movie.

Received a DVD of this from a friend in the Academy (it's not that big deal, there's thousands in the thing :) )today...
This is not the new LOTR or anything remotely close to it.
It's staid, derivitive, dull nonsense from the word go.Avoid like the plague...
Seriously though, certain children might derive some entertainment from it but this is even worse than the hideous Narnia movie in my book...

Southland Tales (2005/2007)
Despite it's critical drubbing and troubled history, Southland Tales emerges as an interesting curio. Muddled towards the end and quite long, but darkly funny, clever and intriguing. Time will tell whether it becomes a cult classic, but this is a underrated if muddled tale worth checking out.

Dunno what to make of this. Its not as bad as was orginally made out though

The Golden Compass (2007)
Entertaining, exciting and charming, great entertainment IMO
Neat special effects, a good cast (though Craig needs more to do), and it ends at the right moment for once in a movie.
I for one genuinely enjoyed it (awaits backlash of people saying I shouldn't like it)
