The Sound of Music (1965), "The Hills are Alive!! With the Sound of Music!!" Yes, one of the most successful and well-loved musicals in the world is back!! Set in Salzberg, Austria in 1938, this has Julie Andrews as Nun turned Governess Maria, who is assigned to look after the Von Trapp children for their strict, widowed father Captain Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), they soon warm to her and she introduces them to simple pleasures such as singing and even melts the icy heart of their father, who takes to Maria. I'd never seen The Sound of Music before this, so where better to see it than on the big-screen!! Now, I'm happy to say, I'm a fan now!! I can see why so many people love it. It's such an innocent tale of finding joy and happiness, set in a time of changing politics and strict traditions. This film is certainly one of my favourite things!! :D 5/5

Electric Sheep- 10-03-2007

1408 - Pretty good. John Cusack is watchable as always and, in parts, this is quite original. It does become a tad on the predictable side around 3/4 of the way through which spoils it a little but it picks up again towards the finale. I can't help it, I'm a sucker for twisty endings. 3.5/5

The Alibi - 2/5 Fast Food Nation - 3/5

MirrorMask (2004), author Neil Gaiman and artist David McKean create an utterly stunning and weird world in this low-budget oddity. This has young Helena (Stephanie Leonidas), who runs away from the family circus (run by her parents, played by Gina McKee and Rob Brydon) to join real life. But, she soon finds herself in a strange gold-tinted dreamworld, (or is it??) Where people wear masks, and Helena soon finds herself stuck in a power battle between the City of Light and the Land of Shadow. An acquired taste of a film, but it is unlike anything that has ever been created on film, but it gladly retains Gaiman's snappy dialogue and McKean's artwork, but that's it. For die-hard fans only... :P 4/5

The Kingdom Very riveting thriller, managed to have a decent political and intelligent side, but was mainly about the action which was great, plus it's great to see Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner in decent roles for once 4/5

U Turn (1997), an underrated film from Oliver Stone, and for a change, one that doesn't tackle Vietnam, politics or the media. It has Sean Penn as drifter Bobby, who finds himself stuck in the town of Superior, Arizona, and it's offbeat residents, including sultry beauty Grace (Jennifer Lopez) and her unhinged husband Jake (Nick Nolte). Bobby soons finds luck is not in his favour in this town, and then Jake asks him to do to kill his wife. Done with a hazy, offbeat tone, (like Natural Born Killers (1994)), this is a modern Film-Noir, filtered through Stone's hyperkinetic style of direction. The supporting players shine, with Powers Boothe as a drunken sheriff, Clare Danes as a local beauty, Joaquin Phoenix as her psychopathic boyfriend, Billy Bob Thornton as a hick mechanic and Jon Voight as a blind war veteran. Certainly worth a viewing!! 4/5 (Oh, and Cuch, I take a certain someone had you watching Flash Gordon?? ;-))
