St. Trinians (2007), the girls of the most dangerous, maddest and always entertaining school in the UK are back, an old standard is brought kicking and screaming into the 21st Century. This has the girls of St. Trinians, with Rupert Everett as their Headmistress!! (), trying to steal a valuable painting from the National Gallery in order to save their school, which is in horrendous debt, whilst trying to keep the Education Minister (Colin Firth), at bay. A very funny film, keeping in with the spirit of the old films, but changing the attitude, the girls are attractive and so is Everett!! But, a good cast includes Lena Headey, Stephen Fry and Russell Brand!! :P 4/5
Bugsy Malone (1976), the sort of film you'd sadly NEVER get away with now, although it was certainly a novel and original idea at the time. Director Alan Parker did a gangster film, and made it with an ALL child cast, and he brings out the best in them, including Scott Baio (later of Happy Days fame), as Bugsy, and a young Jodie Foster as singer Tallulah. Say what you want to about this film, but the fact of the matter is, the kids are top notch, and the songs, (by Paul Williams), are toe-tapping and quite memorable, and any film with machine guns that fire custard cream can't be ALL bad!! :P 5/5
Help! (1965), And
NOW For Something Completely Different!! The Beatles follow up A Hard Days Night (1964) with a hilarious, zany, surreal and ABSOLUTELY BONKERS comedy caper musical!! With an Eastern cult chasing Ringo as he has a sacred ring of theirs, and it takes the Fab Four to Austria, Salisbury Plain, Buckingham Palace and the Bahamas. Director Richard Lester is at the peak of his powers here, there's no plot, but the zany humour more than makes up for that!! The dialogue is MAD!! (
"Hold! Release him or I shoot, and I am a dead-eye shot, shooting!" or
"This is no time for foolish tricks, this is a hired-car!") The lads can act, and the music and humour make up for any sense... :P 5/5
