Shock Treatment (1981), something you ain't NEVER seen before, a SEQUEL, (or if you will, "equal" to The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975))!! This time, it's set in a TV studio, and has Brad and Janet (this time played by Cliff De Young and Jessica Harper), being trapped in a nightmarish game-show-come-reality-TV show, run by doctors Cosmo and Nation McKinley (Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn), and blind Austrian game show host Bert Schnick (Barry Humphries!!) Visually, it looks brilliant, the songs are top notch too. But, it's ABSOLUTELY BONKERS!! Half the time, you don't even know what on earth's going on, it's a satire on American culture, punctuated by 80's pop numbers with an American country-western flavour. God knows what Ritz O'Brien was on when he thought this one up, but don't let it put you off!! ;) Oh, and there's a young Rik Mayall in it!! ;) 3/5 Superman III (1983), for reference, this is the one with Richard Pryor in it as the comedy con-man buffoon computer whiz, who is hired by industrial mogul Ross Webster (rent-a-villian Robert Vaughn), to create a machine to destroy Superman (Christopher Reeve). From the outset, it's a comedy, director Richard Lester even sets that up during the title sequence, but it does have it's moments, like when Superman becomes evil and fights himself in the junkyard, but there's too much Pryor and not enough Superman. He feels like a supporting character in his own film, but there was worse to come... 3/5 *edited by Screamy* Pics removed and this line will now be taken in the future

Superman III rocks! Giant pictures, however, do not.

Me and You and Everyone We Know - Very quirky but enchanting little film, very well acted by everyone but completely stolen by the youngest lead, Brandon Ratcliff, seriously this kid is amazing! 4/5

No Country For Old Men Thanks to the marvel of international postage, and knowing someone with Academy contacts,I received a DVD of this yesterday morning... Absolutely mesmerizing stuff... Javier Bardem is one of the most cold-blooded headcases to grace a screen... Josh Brolin turns in a great performance too as does the ever-reliable Tommy Lee Jones... Up there immediately with the best Coen thrillers...This is an instant classic... Beautiful cinematography as usual from Roger Deakins and a moody score from Carter Burwell round off this superb film... See it now... 5/5

No Country for Old Men - Very good film. I am not a fan of everything the Coens do. I hate Fargo. But this was really good. The psycho is excellently played. I found myself swinging between liking and hating him a few times. Brolin was excellent. i grew to like him more as the piece went on. I kept forgetting who he was and thinking he was Kurt Russell though. It is a role Kurt would have played ten years ago. I thought the star was Tommy Lee Jones though. He perfectly summed up what the film was about the changing landscape of America leaving him behind. I thought the last scene in particular was heartbreaking. 8/10

The English Patient Not my cup of tea, I found the Ralph Fiennes and Kirsten Scott Thomas characters really irritating. This could be due to my crush on Colin Firth  4/10 Hurrah for Nicola ! The most boring cinema experience ever for me. From half an hour from the end I groaned every time there was another bloody scene. I am getting cross thinking about it even now.

Nicola- 01-18-2008

 Thanks Ethan, I really didn't enjoy it Gosford Park I thought it was a bit slow, but not in a bad way 7/10

Homer- 01-18-2008

Ridley Scott's instant-classic debut. Pure raw brilliance.

Some good films have been watched by forumites recently - Gosford Park, The Duellists, Me and You and Everyone We Know, The English Patient (well, I like it!) and from the sounds of it, No Country For Old Men is a winner.

The Bird With The Crystal Plumage (1st view) – Giallo horror from Dario Argento about a serial killer praying on women in Rome and the American who witnesses one of the attacks. The acting is laudable for the most part but there are some great moments of tension, Better than Suspiria, not as good as the director’s similar film, Deep Red – 3/5 Larry (1st view) – TV movie from the 70s. It’s a true story about a man who has spent all his life in a mental institution, only for it to be discovered that he is sound of mind. Apocalypse Now’s Frederic Forrest plays the titular character, and Tyne Daly as the doctor who helps him readjust to life – 4/5
