No Country for Old Men Ever since Fargo and The Big Lebowski, the Coen brothers seem to have gone down hill but now they are back. An engrossed film with realistic action and typical Coen suspense and story telling. Tommy Lee Jones was my only fault with the film who just wanders aimlessly through the film 8/10 Walk Hard Another great one from Apatow and friends. Its in the spirit of Spinal Tap and has loads of great cameos and I now have the music stuck in my head. It has been very overlooked but soon to be classic that will do well on dvd 8/10

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Bloody, gruesome and as usual Depp is amazing and the film works well as a musical but it also has a monty python style humour about it 8/10 AVP R - Alien Vs Predator - Requiem Not as bad as made out slightly better than the first one. Its a Popcorn flick so don't going in expecting a masterpiece. 6/10

No Country For Old Men - A much welcome return to the origins of the Coen brothers. The story in hands of a lesser director would have dragged on slowly. Fortunately, what we encounter is an engaging thriller with great performances. Set in 1980, I failed to spot any anachronisms and was instantly brought into that world. I've been following Javier Bardem's career since his debut in Días Contados and this is one of his best performances to date. I loved his weapon of choice, disturbing in an it-could-happen way. On a lighter note, check out the creature feature tribute in the river chase scene! I thoroughly recommend this film to anyone.

Walk Hard - The la-*test*-('") Apatow comedy, and it shows! A spoof of Ray and Walk The Line, this is laugh out loud from start to finish. We encounter such subjects as child death and drug addiction and it's still hilariously funny! The songs all catchy with lyrics full of double entendre. I'm still humming Walk Hard and Duet. I really need to get my hands on the soundtrack! An instant cult classic!

Better than the Lester version, although has its faults too.

Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street - The la-*test*-('") offering from one of my favourite directors. Based on the musical based on the real crime, we are entered into a world that is instantly recognisable both as the City and as part of Burton's world. The opening credit sequence reminded me of Batman Returns, just in case you forgot who this film was by! Depp is an inspired choice to play Benjamin Barker/ Sweeney Todd, and his performance is possibly his best yet. I thought he nailed the accent, and truly captured the character without overacting. The weakest link, in my opinion, was Helena Bonham Carter. Although her acting was flawless, I didn't think much of her singing voice. The supporting cast was excellent. Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and Laura Michelle Kelly can do no wrong in my eyes. The film , with the exception of Burton's missus, was perfectly cast. A bloody, gory musical. Two hours well spent!

Aliens vs Predator - Requiem - Better than I thought it would be, then again I expected it to be shite. Bog standard action flick, with all the usual suspects fighting against the aliens. Meanwhile, a predator is hunting down the aliens that have escaped from its ship which has crash-landed somewhere in rural Colorado. No real development from the first installment. Not much of a story full stop. I preferred the setting of the first film and thought this one to be full of clichés. Still, if bad ass aliens, mindless action and dumb as f*** people fighting are your cup of tea, you'll enjoy this thoroughly. Everyone else, save this for a night in with your mates and pizza and beer.

The Doctor - Watched this film a few years ago. About arrogant, cold hearted doctor who finds out what it is like to be a patient and becomes a better person. William Hurt is fantastic. But he always is. I am not sure who else there is around who makes acting look so effortless. The one downside is Elizabeth Perkins playing a fellow patient. She was supposed to be profound and I just found her a little irritating. Also the ending is a little sacharine for my taste but...it is a great film and I highly recommend it. 7/10 Oy vey iz mir ! Now I know how Aura felt when she took the funket to see Bratz.

Walk Hard - top notch, future cult classic. Barely 5 minutes without a laugh out loud moment. The trip to India was a highlight. :D Full review later in reviews... Lust, Caution - Stellar stuff. Deeply affecting.

Alien - one of the grea-*test*-('") films ever made.

Zodiac - A bit dissapointing for me. very well acted and everything but I found the pace a little slow. I guess this was to emphathise what a bastard it actually is to catch a killer. But even slow I felt 158 minutes was at least 30 minutes to long. A meagre 6/10.
