Resident Evil : Extinction Good Popcorn fun 6/10

Gimli The Dwarf- 10-13-2007

Ratatouille (1st view) - Excellent. Words really cannot do justice for this film. Everything about it - the animation, voices, score, story, script - works perfectly. The only Pixar film to better it is Monsters, Inc and if this doesn't end up being my film of the year I will be surprised. Often laugh-out-loud funny, both my sister and I had stupid grins on our faces from beginning to end. An absolute treat, the kind of movie that makes the world seem a better place - 5/5

Ratatouille- Can't sum it up better than Gimli, a magnificent masterpiece of Pixar proportions.... in the scheme of things, it comes between The Incredibles and Nemo.... not their best ever, but still one of the best movies in light years... 12/10 Resident Evil: Extinction- Ho hum action horror, Milla is fine as usual, and the action is decent.... just turns silly at the end and sets up even more.. 6/10

Planet Terror While its a very good film it has something missing that I can't put my finger on. Prefer Death Proof over it 7/10

Lady in the Water - Once I got over the stupid way M. Night Shyamalan likes to shoot his movies I absolutely loved this film. It was beautiful and magical and extremely well done.

Black Snake Moan - A very unusual and thoroughly enjoyable film. Christina Ricci is awesome but I love her in everything. She does look incredibly scrawny though. Eat some chips girls. You'll be pleased to know that her baps are on show throughout :D she does white trash so well. Samuel L Jackson's best role since Pulp Fiction in my opinion. He gets to the heart of his character and to the heart of Ricci's character. It's disturbing and moving and Justin Timberlake is proving himself to be more than just a pretty face. The man can actually act. 8/10 The Mummy Returns - I loved this. It was such good fun and Rachel Weisz is utterley adorable in it. Good popcorn fun. 7/10

Stardust Fucking Awesome. My 2nd favourite film of the year after Transformers. Only Downsides was that unfunny nob Ricky Gervais and Sienna Miller. 9/10

Over the last week or so. The Hills Have Eyes 2 (1st view) – A bit crap really. All gore, no horror – 2/5 Flags Of Our Fathers (1st view) – Interesting companion piece of Letters From Iwo Jima and while Letters is the better film I think I preferred this one. Eastwood once again proves his worth behind the camera, coaxing good performances from a decent cast, and both the battle scenes and human drama are engaging – 4/5 Ike : Countdown to D-Day (1st view) – Tom Selleck stars as General Eisenhower is this US TV movie and it chronicles the months prior to D-day, and the planning stages of the mission. A war film that’s confined to meetings and war rooms, and it works wonderfully. Very interesting - 4/5 The Illusionist (1st view) – Dodgy moustaches all over the place! A fine piece of period fantasy, well acted by all, although a strange mix of accents can be heard. The ending was also just abbot too elaborate for my liking. Small problems though, and Philip Glass gives us yet another wonderfully ominous score – 4/5 Apocalypto (1st view) – Anyone expecting an in-depth look at Mayan culture will be disappointed by this. Those expecting a thrilling, breakneck chase film won’t be. Using a cast of mainly non-actors, Mel Gibson has created a hugely exciting, at times disturbing, race against time thriller. Perhaps too violent for some (although not quite so bad as some reviews make out, even the sacrifice sequence isn’t particularly gruesome) this is well worth a watch – 4/5 Stardust (1st view) – A rollicking food fantasy adventure. Magical, funny, spirited and boisterous. Great effects, good action scenes, a wonderful score and it’s well acted by almost everyone. Claire Danes and Charlie Cox make for a very likeable and engaging central pair of characters, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark String are both having a good time as villains, and many other famous faces pop up. Ricky Gervais is the downside, as are a few other British comedians who appear to practically useless effect. On the whole though, a good story, well told. Great fun – 4/5

Ratatouille (2007), Pixar hit an all time high with this literally delicious animated tale of rat Remy, who dreams of becoming a chef like his idol, the late Auguste Gusteau. He finds himself in Paris, where he comes across Gusteau's old restaurant, here Remy finds himself with inept dishwasher Linguini, who wants to cook, but can't. However, with Remy controlling like a puppet, using his hair, he can, or rather, they both can. ;) An absolutely hilarious animated film, with flawless animation complimenting a seemless story, voices that match their characters, and an upbeat, warm style that stays throughout the film, kudos to Pixar and director Brad Bird. Roll on Wall-E!! :D 5/5 Oh, and the short before the film, Lifted, is hilarious. It sets the mood perfectly for what's coming!! ;)

Stardust (2007), Neil Gaiman's fantasy novella comes to the big screen courtesy of director Matthew Vaughn, making a stunning transition from gangster films to fantasy films. This has Tristan Thorne (Charlie Cox), who crosses over a mysterious wall into the kindom of Stormhold, to bring back a fallen star to the girl of his dreams Victoria (Sienna Miller), it is there he finds out the star is a person called Yvaine (Claire Danes). Also in pursuit is a couple of heirs to the throne of Stormhold, and a witch (Michelle Pfieffer), wanting youth for her and her sisters. Oh, and a cross-dressing sky pirate called Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro), is thrown in too. A very funny, and highly imaginative fantasy adventure, think The Princess Bride as if it was made by Terry Gilliam. :P 4/5
