Love Happy (1st view) – Latter day Marx Brothers film that is actually more rewarding than a few of earlier “masterpieces” – 3/5 Fun With Dick and Jane (2nd view) – Not the Jim Carrey remake, the original with Jane Fonda and George Segal, two actors who are always watchable. The way the two stars play off each other, it reminds me slightly of the screwball comedies from the 30s. Good fun – 4/5 Lady Of Deceit (1st view) – Every cliché and fault you can think of from black and white thrillers is present and correct here. Overly melodramatic, dialogue that sounds obviously scripted, piercing violin music during scenes of drama, women who faint or burst into tears at the drop of a hat, burying their heads into the shoulders of strong, silent, lusty men, etc Still, it’s well put together and decently acted for the most part – 3/5 Simpatico (1st view) – A good cast – Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges, Catherine Keener, Albert Finney – do their best in this tale of old friends whose past catches up with them, but the story and script are extremely mudded and I really don’t have much of a clue what went on – 2/5

Death Proof (2007), Quentin Tarantino's half of the ill-fated Grindhouse experience. His half is like an authentic 70's B-Movie, and has psychotic stunt-driver Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), who stalks foul-mouthed, but good lookin' ladies in Austin Texas and rural Tennessee in his Death Proof car. However, a few of them decide to get revenge on him. It's a slow-burning character piece, but once Stuntman Mike revs into action, it becomes scary!! It looks and feels like a film from the 1970's, complete with a great soundtrack and a damaged print, just a pity we couldn't see it as Grindhouse. 4/5 http://www.empireonline.com/images/image_index/hw800/21865.jpg

The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), a film that was controversial upon release, but is a moving, funny, tragic and always thought-provoking piece on the freedom of speech. Milos Forman directs Woody Harrelson as Larry Flynt, the founder of Hustler magazine, who built an honest empire, survived an assassination attempt which paralysed him, but was hounded by arrests and court-room appearances which people challenged his right to publish such filth. A good all-American story of a man who stood up for what he believed in, stood up to authority, and won. With Courtney Love as his wife, and a brilliant supporting casting including James Cromwell, Crispin Glover, Vincent Schiavelli and Edward Norton as his long suffering lawyer, this is still relevent today as it was when it came out... 4/5 http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/8223/peoplevslarryflyntbs8.jpg

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), Tim Burton takes on Stephen Sondheim's acclaimed musical, with Johnny Depp as the titular barber, returning after 15 years imprisoned in Australia to come home to Victorian London to seek revenge upon Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman) who imprisoned him to get Todd's wife. To work his way towards getting the judge, he ends up murdering hapless customers who have come for a shave, whose bodies end up being of benefit to Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter), who owns the pie-shop downstairs. :P A brilliant musical, adding horror and violence to a well worn genre, this has many of Burton's trademark gothic stylings, plus a scene-stealing appearance from Borat himself, Sacha Baron Cohen!! :D 5/5 http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7013/sweeneytoddxlgzp4.jpg

Bean (1997), Rowan Atkinson bring's one of his most famous creations to the big screen, and creates a good guilty pleasure of a film!! :P This has Mr. Bean being sent to America by the Royal National Gallery to help unveil Whistler's Mother in America, he creates havoc wherever he goes, including nearly ruining the life of his host David (Peter MacNicol), and then Mr. Bean is left alone with the painting... :P It's not a complete disaster, though it has some very good moments of slapstick, and Atkinson handles them brilliantly, writer Richard Curtis proves he can do more than romantic comedies and Mel Smith can direct comedy. Oh, and John Mills and Burt Reynolds appear. :P 3/5 http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/9455/10x62d6exx6518hwz399uh5ge4.jpg
