Brothers of the Head (2005), documentary filmmakers Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe make their first fictional film based on a novel by Brian Aldiss, adapted by Tony Grisoni, (Fear and Loathing, Tideland), into a straight-faced mockumentary. Set in 1975, it has siamese twins Tom and Barry Howe (played by real-life twins Harry and Luke Treadaway, though they're not siamese in reality :P), who are taken from their reclusive life on an island just off the coast of East Anglia and groomed into pop-stars by pop promoter Zak Bedderwick (Howard Attfield). They soon become musicians in The Bang Bang, but sex and drugs and women cause friction. A weird little British film, not like anything that has gone before. It has some good tunes and the performances are good, but the mockumentary aspect does wear thin after some time, (it uses it's footage from "behind-the-scenes" of their recording sessions and an unfinished Ken Russell film called "Two-Way Romeo".) Russell even appears, as well as guest stars Jonathan Pryce, John Simm and Jane Horrocks. :P 3.5/5 http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9554/brothersoftheheadyn9.jpg

Just seen Cloverfield. BEST.MONSTER.MOVIE.EVER!!!

Gimli The Dwarf- 02-02-2008

The Haunted House (1st view) – Buster Keaton short, as inventive as ever. The man was a genius – 4/5 Paycheck (2nd view) – A rare misstep from John Woo (yes, I like MI:2 and Windtalkers). Paul Giamatti is on good for, but the rest is forgettable – 2/5 Charlie Wilson’s War (1st view) – An often very funny political satire. Tom Hanks is on fine form, Philip Seymour Hoffman is brilliant, Julia Roberts if lacklustre. It ends abruptly but this is a small flaw – 4/5 Rules Of Engagement (2nd view) – William Friedkin’s courtroom drama see Tommy Lee Jones defending Samuel L. Jackson when he’s accused of murder on the battlefield. Both leads give strong performances and it’s my favourite Friedkin Film – 4/5 Remember The Titans (2nd view) – Like almost every sports film this is clichéd and predictable but never less than fully entertaining, largely thanks to the always reliable Denzel Washington – 3/5 Buena Vista Social Club (1st view) Win Wenders’ documentary as he follows Ry Cooder and a group of legendary, yet forgotten, Cuban musicians, both in Cuba and in concert. The best documentaries can fully engage you in a subject that holds little interest to the viewer. This doesn’t quite do that but is still quite fascinating – 3/5 Once Around (1st view) – Lasse Hallstrom is always good value for money and this venture from he early 90s s no exception. Holly Hunter falls for older businessman, Richard Dreyfuss, and his high spirits and strong will slowly eat away at her family, much to the displeasure of Hunter’s father, Danny Aiello. Funny and poignant – 4/5 Heat (3rd view) – Michael Mann’s epic crime drama starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Before I watched it I could only recall about three scenes (the superb shootout, the meeting between the two leads and the ending) and it was hugely enjoyable watching it again – 4/5 I Walked With A Zombie (2nd view) – classic horror film that is rich in atmosphere yet lacks any genuine suspense, thrills of terror. Decently acted for the most part, but the script is laughable at times – 3/5 Sweeney Todd (1st view) – Brilliant, simply brilliant. Film, of the year so far. Depp is fantastic as the titular character, yet almost everyone is perfect in their roles. Great music and songs, the film looks an absolute treat and the final scene is breathtaking. A masterpiece – 5/5 Scarface (2nd view) – A film that has loyal fans and avid critics. I don’t hate it but I certainly don’t love it, it’s gone down a star since I last saw it – 2/5 Stakeout (2nd view) – 80s buddy cop thriller. The actual crime aspect is forgettable, but the nice humour between Richard Dreyfuss and Emilio Estevez, plus Madeleine Stowe as the love interest, makes it enjoyable fun. Lust, Caution (1st view) – Splendid film from Ang Lee. A superbly crafted, deeply emotional film. Gr3at performances from all, Joan Chen especially, this is one of Lee’s best – 5/5 Vacancy (1st view) – Surprisingly decent horror. There are some genuine thrills to be had as Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale are relentlessly attacked in a remote motel. The villains are naff, but reasonable overall – 3/5 Attack On The Iron Coast (1st view) – decent boys own WWII film as Lloyd Bridges leads an attack on a German dock by loading a Minesweeper with explosives and sailing it into the harbour. Decent, but the fact that some of the scenes were filmed just 20 minutes from me at the Albert Dock was distracting – 3/5 A Night At The Opera (1st view) – Possibly the best Marx Brothers film I’ve seen. It’s a toss-up between this and Monkey Business. Either way, it’s a great improvement on many of their films and if often laugh out loud funny – 4/5

Penelope Ok but its more of a wait for it on dvd film 5/10 Cloverfield A Breath of Fresh air, Tremendously good fun which doesn't let up when it finally kicks off . My only fault was it could of been a little bit longer 9/10

Cloverfield (2008), Lost producer J.J. Abrams came up with the idea of a post-9/11 disaster film, with director Matt Reeves and writer Drew Goddard, and it certainly is something new and refreshing, breathing new life into the tired old disaster film. Set in New York, and shot entirely on a camcorder, it starts off as a leaving do for Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David), then something attacks Manhattan, and it soon becomes a tale of survival, and they try to get to safety, yet at the same time, film the events happening all around them. It's a film which lives up to it's internet hype, and it's certainly imaginative and even it's cast of unknowns play their parts well. Think of it as War of the Worlds meets The Blair Witch Project, only this is alot more entertaining and suspensful!! 4/5

Hot Fuzz (2007), Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright ride again after Shaun of the Dead (2004), this time, they take on the action genre with terrific style. Pegg is Sgt. Nicolas Angel, a London cop transfered to the village of Sandford, Gloustershire. Nothing much goes on in Sandford, until a series of fatal "accidents" arouse his suspicions, with Frost as his oafish, but loveable partner Danny Butterman, director Wright has proved here that the UK can be cool when it comes to action films, plus he's assembled the best British cast in ages, including Jim Broadbent, Bill Nighy, Steve Coogan, Edward Woodward, Paddy Considine and Timothy Dalton!! :D Absolutely hilarious, maybe the best British film of 2007!! 5/5 http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4491/hotfuzzver5xlgya4.jpg

Penelope. Heartwarming enough little fairy tale. Nice enough little story. Doesn't exactly break any new ground but the performances are all nice enough. Went simply because I wanted something nice to do with the Funklet today and that was about the only thing on that we could both watch although the "happy ending" thing really isn't my favourite theme at the moment. Overall 3/5

Screamy- 02-03-2008

Juno Breath of fresh air with great turns from Page and Cera 8/10 Before the Devil Knows You're Dead Found this very boring and something that been done many times before. Marisa Tomei was the plus point :-o 4/10

K.B. Flumpet- 02-05-2008

Juno - Much funnier and sweeter than I was expecting. I really enjoyed it. 4/5 Eagle vs Shark - A very very bizarre but oddly beautiful film. I actually found it incredibly sad, the lead character was so well performed that I fell for her early on; she's very sweet and poignant and I kept getting upset because I felt so strongly for her. The ending was cute and left me feeling a bit warm and fuzzy. Al in all, it got a lot better as it went on, and in retrospect I liked it more than I thought I did at the time. 3/5 Knocked Up - Again, funnier than I was expecting, and with a sweet payoff at the end. 3/5

Jareth- 02-05-2008

Definetly Maybe Great smart, clever and original rom-com with a great cast, a great script... really recommended :D

Ethan- 02-05-2008

Nil By Mouth - Been meaning to see this film for years finally got around to it tonight. A fantastic film. Uncompromising look at the lives many people live. A fantastic ensemble cast well directed and scripted. The thing that makes the film though is the superlative acting of Ray Winstone and Kathy Burke. Ray Winstone's character is a despicable, self centred, violent bully. But in spite of this he manages to bring moments out in the character when you actually pity rather than despise him. Kathy Burke plays his wife who dreams of a better life but is stuck with him. She plays it at exactly the right level. Its a wonderful film and I cannot say more than you should get to seee it as soon as you can. 9/10

Ethan- 02-06-2008

Cloverfield - Very good film but I think the comparisons with Blair Witch are a little disingenuous. Blair Witch was filmed on a camcorder. This was filmed with a very expensive camera and made to look like it was being filmed with a camcorder. but very entertaining for all of that. 7/10

Screamy- 02-06-2008

Meet the Spartans Pretty poor 300 spoof which has some funny moments. Sean Maguire does a great Leonidas impression though. The SPPPPPAAARRRTTTTAAAA scene was a highlight as well. 4/10
