National Treasure Book of Secrets Entertaining popcorn adventure flick better than that Da Vinci Code crap and on a par with the original 7/10

The Living Daylights (1987), Timothy Dalton takes over as James Bond, and what a refreshing change it is!! Dalton's interpretation of Bond as a cold, ruthless brute was a world away from Roger Moore's camp fop. Bond helps Soviet General Georgi Koskov (Jeroen Krabbé) escape to the west, but Koskov has his own agenda with renegade arms dealer, Brad Whitaker (Joe Don Baker). With Koskov's girlfriend Kara Milovy (Maryam d'Abo) in tow, Bond must stop Whitaker and Koskov from creating another world war. A very good Bond film indeed, audiences were ready for Bond to be hard-ass again, Dalton was a very underrated Bond, and he was faithful to Ian Fleming's interpretation of Bond, which is alot believable than Bond being a camp joker. :P 4/5 http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/4846/35051987007altatensionujj9.jpg

Juno- Funny, moving, charming and quirky, a treat of a movie that whilst it ain't Lil Miss Sunshine or Sideways is still fantastic and deserves some of its Oscars 4/5

Screamy- 02-09-2008

Juno hasn't won any oscars yet or do you have a Deloren or Telephone Box? :-o

Jareth- 02-09-2008

I meant deserves to win some

Electric Sheep- 02-09-2008

Blood Diamond At times brutal and horrific to watch it was, nonetheless, a film that kept your attention to the end. I don't think I could watch it again though. 6/10

Homer- 02-10-2008

Lady and the Tramp 5 Star Disney classic. Everyone should watch it.

A Mighty Heart (1st view) – A moving film from Michael Winterbottom about the kidnapping of an American Journalist, and the effort of his friends and family to get him released. Anjelina Jolie is superb – 4.5 Zodiac (2nd view) – Thoroughly engrossing account of the hunt for a serial killers and the effect it had on the lives of those involved. Great performances from a wonderful cast, thrillingly tense set pieces and David Fincher’s eye for detail make this a treat – 4/5 No Country For Old Men (1st view) Apart from a few questions that should have been answered come films end, this is pretty much perfect, the best Coen film so far. As the leads, Bardem, Brolin and Lee Jones are exceptional – 5/5 The Da Vinci Code (3rd view) – I don’t care what the critics say, I love this film. It zooms along in its own merry way, implausibility be damned. The cast are perfectly watchable, the story entertaining and Hans Zimmer’s score is brilliant – 4/5 Dead Reckoning (1st view) – Always goods to see Humphrey Bogart, and he’s by far the best actor on screen in this film noir. Chock full of predictability, clichés and dodgy acting, this is still hugely atmospheric entertainment – 4/5 A Nightmare On Elm Street (2nd view) – A bit of a mess overall. Some great moments of suspense are hindered by some terrible writing and acting. Nice to see Johnny Depp in his early days, even if he has been better in just about every film since – 3/5 Dave (3rd view) – Fantastic romantic comedy about a Presidential look-alike who is asked to step in for the President. Kevin Kline has rarely been better; Sigourney Weaver is on fine form and the whole things runs like clockwork. Very funny – 4/5 The Upside Of Anger (1st view) – Bittersweet romantic comedy drama which stars Joan Allen as a housewife who has to raise her 4 daughters alone once her husband leaves her. Kevin Costner is the family friend who helps along the way. Nice performances from all and a good script from director/writer Mike Binder make this hugely watchable -4/5 Hostel part II (1st view) Crap – 2/5 Ocean’s Thirteen (2nd view) – A big improvement on the smug Ocean’s Twelve, this is still lightweight entertainment, but very enjoyable all the same. You can’t help but cheer on the gang as they plan all sorts of cons to get revenge on Casino owner Al Pacino – 4/5 Reign Over Me (1st view) Another film from Mike Binder this time starring Adam Sandler as a man whose life fell apart when his family were killed on 9/11. Don Cheadle is an old friend who tries to help him. Both are very good, and are helped by the likes of Liv Tyler, Donald Sutherland and Saffron Burrows. It’s a flawed film but ultimately it’s very moving – 4/5

Juno (2007), the other pregnancy film of 2007, but this one has more depth and heart to it, not to mention a quirky, offbeat tone. Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page), is a slighty oddball 16-year-old who becomes pregnant after a one-night stand from friend Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). Juno decides to give away the baby to rich couple Mark and Vanessa Loring, (Jason Bateman and Jennifer Garner), but are they ready for parenthood?? A charming little independent gem, (made for $7.5 million, it's already made over $100 million in America.) It's got a wonderful female lead from Page, (give the lass an Oscar!!) Director Jason Reitman brings the best from her and the rest of the cast. Plus, it's got a wonderful tone to it which stays with you long after the film is over. :) 4/5

Penelope (2007), a quite odd little British fantasy. This has Penelope Wilhern (Christina Ricci), a young aristocratic heiress who, due to an ancient family curse, has the facial features of a pig. To break the curse, all she has to do is find someone who will marry her, but it's not going to be easy, as any potential men run away, but she may have found one in hard-up Max (James McAvoy). This is one of those films that come along once in a blue moon, and will split audiences in two. But, despite it's offbeat tone, it's a funny, touching and charming little fairy tale, set in some sort of hybrid UK/America land. Plus, it has an excellent supporting cast including Catherine O'Hara, Richard E. Grant, Nigel Havers, Lenny Henry, Russell Brand, Ronni Ancona, Nick Frost, Peter Dinklage and Reese Witherspoon, (who also produced the film... ;)) 3/5

Garfield - Very disappointing. I had been told that this was a good film. But it fell between the stalls of a kids and an adult film. Just thought it was boring. 4/10 A History of Violence - Cracking film. Reminded me a bit of Unforgiven in its theme. How a person cannot escape their violent past. Cracking set pieces. Vingo is the bomb. One thing that made it unique for me. William Hurt actually giving a poor performance. He is the most consistent actor ever and that was just not his role at all. 8/10 Dunston Checks In - Brain dead kids film. But enough silly gags to keep my little one happy when I was knackered after a shitty day at work. 5/10 Rope - Seen it a few times before. Very good again. Farley Granger is a creepy fuck and James Stewart is agreeably world weary and cynical. 7/10

3.10 To Yuma (2nd view) A terrific remake, one that manages to be just as enthralling as the excellent original. Russell Crowe is very good, and Christian Bale is superb. One of the finest westerns of recent years with a rollicking good score – 4/5 Cloverfield (1st view) – A simply mesmerising experience that literally blew me away. The concept works magnificently and the whole thing is an edge of your seat thrill ride – 5/5 Juno (1st view) – Sweet charming and funny, this is a delightful little comedy. Great actors breathe life into some fine characters and the laughs are genuine. At times the dialogue does sound unnatural, people talk in ways that no one actually does, but it’s a small flaw in a feel good gem – 4/5 National Treasure (8th view) and National Treasure: Book Of Secrets (1st view) – I don’t mind admitting that the first film has been a favourite of mine for a few years now and the sequel is really just more of the same, but in a very good. These films set out to provide nothing more than light breezy entertainment and they succeed. They may be Indy-light, but they are great fun. Plus, Riley Poole is an ace sidekick! – 4/5 each

Screamy- 02-14-2008

Four Brothers Run of the mill revenge flick 5/10 Lord Of War Better than expected with some great sequences like the opening titles 7/10

Gimli The Dwarf- 02-14-2008

The Hitcher (1st view) - I'm no great fan of the original, but this remake starring Sean Bean wasn't anything to write home about - 2/5

Donald McKinney- 02-15-2008

The Jazz Singer (1980), an oddly timed remake of the first talkie, and all it follows is the original's story. Yussel Rabinovitch (Neil Diamond), is a young Jewish Cantor in Brooklyn, New York, whose father (Laurence Olivier), expects to be a cantor like him. However, Yussel has aspirations as a pop singer under the alias of Jess Robin, which means he must defy his father to go and live his dream. Good songs can't disguise a mediocre film, Neil Diamond can't act for toffee and Olivier hams his part up to high heaven, (they both got Razzie's), but the film had good intentions, director Richard Fleischer tries his best as well. Oh and Paul Nicholas appears as an obnoxious punk rock star... :P 2/5
