What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962), a really gripping examination of psychological torture, brilliantly directed by Robert Aldrich. Set mostly within one house, this has former child vaudeville star Baby Jane Hudson (Bette Davis), now reduced to looking after her cripped sister, ex-actress Blanche Hudson (Joan Crawford), Jane feels resentment for Blanche for becoming famous, whilst Jane's fame faded away, as a result, she wages a war of psychological terror upon her sister. A really gripping and suspensful film, (Hitchcock would have killed for something like this), Bette Davis brilliantly plays a right old bitch to her sister, played with naive coolness by Crawford. 4/5
Cape Fear (1991), Martin Scorsese does a remake, but it's one of the rare occasions where the remake is alot better than the original. Here, Robert De Niro plays convicted rapist Max Cady, who is released from prison after 14 years, and sets about stalking his former lawyer Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte) and his family (Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis). A really gripping piece of work, probabily the closest thing to a horror movie Scorsese has ever done, De Niro plays a really loathesome character, but it is one of his best performances. Scorsese adds some nice touches, he casts Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck and Martin Balsam, who were in the original movie, it's tightly shot by British cinematographer Freddie Francis, and even though it was set in North Carolina, it was shot entirely in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Oh, and or reference, this is the film The Simpsons made fun of with Sideshow Bob going after Bart, what a pity this didn't have a sequence with rakes!! :P 4/5
