Cypher (2002), a thinking man's sci-fi film from underrated Canadian director Vincenzo Natali. It has unemployed accountant Morgan Sullivan (Jeremy Northam), hired to work as a corporate spy for Digicorp, for this, he has to take on the identity of Jack Thursby, but he soon discovers the plot Digicorp has to destroy people's true identities, but he soon finds help in the form of Rita Foster (Lucy Liu). The film sounds like something Philip K. Dick would come up with, (parts of it are very similar to Total Recall), it's plot might be confused here and there, but it's highly original, with some brilliant production design and some truly good moments for a low-budget sci-fi. ;) 4/5 The Terminator (1984), the one where it all started, the film that made Arnold Schwarzenegger and director James Cameron famous. Arnie plays the T-800, sent back in time from the year 2028, where the world has been destroyed by a nuclear holocaust and where machines rule the earth. The T-800's mission is to eliminate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose unborn son John, will lead a resistance against the machines in the future. Meanwhile, the resistance has sent back Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), a soldier who has been assigned to protect Connor from the T-800. A very dark but very exciting action film, with some truly amazing moments for it's day. Having said that, T-2 is better. :P 4/5

Good on you Leccy! Alien 3 is seriously undeserving in its contempt.

Ratatouille - Comme si comme ça. Distinctly average story that at its best entertains, but mostly underwhelms. By the way, rosemary is a herb not a spice!

Screamy- 10-24-2007

Ratatouille Not a patch on pixars other animations, Very Overrated. I prefer Flushed Away  The short before on the other hand was great and far better than the main feature 6/10

Hostel ...3/5...

Good on you Leccy! Alien 3 is seriously undeserving in its contempt. The extended cut is far better than the theatrical version, IMO. Part of me still wishes they'd gone with the original idea of the monks on a wooden planet though.

Cross of Iron (1977), Sam Peckinpah goes to war, a story from the Russian front of WW2, where the Germans are fighting against the Russians, but they are fighting a losing battle, losing men and are ill-equiped, but one squadron, led by Sgt. Rolf Steiner (James Coburn), are determined to survive in this harsh battle. What Peckinpah did for Westerns in The Wild Bunch (1969), he does here for World War II films, featuring his trademark slo-mo violence in this engaging war story, with a good cast including James Mason and David Warner. 4/5

Sicko (2007), Michael Moore is back, after tackling America's gun culture in Bowling For Columbine (2002) and Bush in Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004), he's out on a crusade to expose the American Health Care System for the profit it makes from charging it's patients for health care and medicines. Then, he compares it to the health care systems in the UK, Canada, France and Cuba, who get it all for free or next to nothing, compared to the American's, who pay through the nose for it. Moore exposes some unpleasant truths here, but slag off the NHS all you want, but after seeing it, you be thankful that we have it, despite it's faults. :P 4/5

WIJW
Eastern Promises (2007)- Dark, unsettling but very very good.... Viggo Mortensen turns in a mesmerising performance (Oscar take note), and Naomi Watts and Vincent Cassell are also very solid 4/5

Went to my local arts to see Tales of Eathsea a studio Ghibli film this film was the directorial debut from Hayao's son Goro. Whilst not the up to the standards of his father he still has time,I heard it was completly slated in Japan. Based on the books by Ursula Le Guin which I admit I know nothing about, its an enchanting story of fantasy in a world of dragons and wizards .. Grave of the fireflies A harrowing and painful story of the horrors of war, tells the story of two japanese children orphaned after a bombing raid on their village in WW2. What can I say about this film except that its no walk in the park, but its beautiful as well amongst the awfulness of it all.

Absolutely brilliant. Doesn't hurt that there's a decent long scene of him fighting totally naked either!

Eastern Promises Viggo Mortensen is great in his role as a russian mobster with arrogant exterior but it still no a patch on History of Violence. 7/10 Saw 4 Mess of a movie 4/10
