Well worth watching - Screamy, if you or Aeon haven't watched this one yet, I recommend you watch this HoF entry - as I say in the thread on Empire, it's relentlessly miserable, and unmeasurably beautiful.

Madge- 04-02-2008

Based on the journals of Christopher Mc Candless and also adapted from a book made from his own diaries. Christopher Mc candless was a university graduate with a bright future ahead of him but the the future he wanted so he gives away his savings to charity and sets of on his own adventure by hitchhiking to Alaska. Some incredible landscape and a a well chosen cast such as Vince Vaughn,Hal Holbrook and Catherine Keener and especially Emile Hirsch. maybe just a little long but well worth seeing. not quite 4 stars but a high 3 1/2

Gimli The Dwarf- 04-03-2008

Evening (1st view) - A fine selection of actresses, including Claire Danes, Meryl Streep, Toni Collette, Glenn Close, Eileen Atkins and Vanessa Redgrave help power along this moving tale that takes place in the present day and the 1950s - 4/5

Right on the money with your review for Into the Wild, Madge. I was surprised by it considering it's a Sean Penn movie :D

The Cottage An ok British version of Wrong Turn. Bit slow but improves as it goes along 6/10

I was underwhelmed by this when it was first released, but it's aged well, and I've grown up a bit since then - fantastic film. Annette Bening was still annoying as hell tho.

Shine a Light (2008), Martin Scorsese does a live concert film of The Rolling Stones, performing live over 2 nights at the Beacon Theatre in New York in 2006. The film brings out the very best in them, as they perform old classics and some songs never before done on stage before. Plus, they're not alone, they have some special guests in the form of Jack White, Buddy Guy and Christina Aguilera. Scorsese even punctuates the songs with some old archive interviews, which adds to the entertainment. Shine a Light is very well shot, and The Rolling Stones still have the momentum which has kept them going for about 45 years now, long may it continue. 4/5 10,000 BC (2008), getting away from cities being destroyed, director Roland Emmerich takes us back to when civilisation was coming about. With this adventure which has D'Leh (Steven Strait), going off on a long quest to rescue his girlfriend Evolet (Camilla Belle) who has been kidnapped by raiders from a pre-Egyptian civisation. Emmerich certainly knows how to do things on a big scale, and to do some good action scenes. He gives us woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed tigers, and the film is beautifully shot. But, it's historical accuracy lets it down, or maybe it's not meant to be accurate. It's just a bit of harmless, dumb fun, it also has a warm narration by Omar Sharif. 3/5 Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002), George Clooney made a very stylish and offbeat directorial debut with this film, based on the "unauthorised autobiography" by Chuck Barris, (played here by Sam Rockwell), the TV producer/host who created shows like The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game and The Gong Show. But, when he wasn't producing these shows, he was a contract hit man for the CIA throughout the 1960's and 70's. Thus, he became a hitman of two kinds. A different kind of spy film, the screenplay was by Charlie Kaufman, so it was to be expected. But, Rockwell gives a very good central performance, Clooney proves to be a very good director. Plus, the film has good support from Drew Barrymore and Julia Roberts. :) 4/5

Severely underrated Gulf War drama.

Screamy- 04-04-2008

Son of Rambow Wonderful, Touching and Funny. The two main stars were very good and the film brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. 8/10

nomimalone- 04-05-2008

Amercian Gangster takes its time to tell the story, but remains interesting throughout and has 2 good performances by Washington and Crowe. 7/10>

Son of Rambow (2007), writer/director Garth Jennings, one half of Hammer & Tongs helps to create a wonderfully sweet and nostalgic film set in the early 1980's. It has two young boys, Will Proudfoot (Bill Milner) and Lee Carter (Will Poulter). Two boys from very different backgrounds, who find themselves doing a homemade sequel to First Blood, which they intend to send in to BBC's Screen Test. This is a warm and well made little British film, it's got good performances and a lot of heart and imagination. Think of it as Be Kind Rewind meets Billy Elliot. ;) 4/5

A year to the date from when it was first released. (Well, the first hour of Planet Terror was yesterday, but other than that, it was all after midnight, and so technically this morning!) An absolutely awesome experience, and I'm so glad I held out until I got the chance to see this as intended on the big screen. I'll post a full review of the entire 2-film 4-trailer show when I have the time.

Sorry Homer, but that picture was way too big.
