In Bruges (1st view) – Frequently hilarious film about two hitmen who go to Bruges after a botched job. The laughs are well balanced with a dramatic storyline, and the whole thing ends up being strangely moving. Colin Farrell has never been better; Brendan Gleason reminds us once again of how good an actor he is (and make us wonder why he rarely gets parts as good as this) and Ralph Fiennes as a cockney mob boss needs to be seen to be believed. Superb – 4/5
The Orphanage (1st view) – A wonderfully chilling and surprising emotional horror/ghost story. Reminiscent of films such as The Haunting, The Sixth Sense and The Others, yet never anything less than original. Belén Rueda, perhaps best known for her role in The Sea Inside, was exceptional; keeping the film grounded but giving it it’s heart as well. – 4/5
Tell No One (1st view) – Harlan Coben’s novel gets a French makeover in this tense and exciting thriller. François Cluzet plays the doctor whose wife is murdered, only for her to contact him 8 years later. The story twists and turns keeping you guessing right till the end. Great stuff – 4/5
The Heartbreak Kid (1st view) - Another bad taste comedy from the Farrelly Brothers, and another film in which Ben Stiller plays, well, Ben Stiller. It has some good laughs, but this is mostly forgettable. Thank goodness for the rather lovely Michelle Monaghan, who manages to bring some life to the film, and keep an eye out for Malin Akerman in next years Watchmen (I hope it’s good!!!) – 3/5
