Screamy- 07-19-2008

Mamma Mia! Dear God what a cringeworthy load of rubbish, Badly cast as most of them couldn't sing especially Pierce Brosnan. At least Stellan Skarsgard knew it and didn't sing that much. It had a few good scenes involving Christine Baranski and Julie Walters but that was it. Complete waste of time 3/10

*Gives self 10 minute start from the forum hordes...* Wall.E - I cannot fault the animation done on this movie. However, as far the story goes (which is what I actually go for), this was awful. I haven't been so bored at the cinema since, well, Ratatouille. Pixar really need to sort out their story development department and start dishing out entertaining stories for once. I cannot stress how much Wall.E annoyed me. It was sickly sweet and oversentimental even by Disney standards. I spent most of the film wishing someone would deactivate the two robots. An almighty waste of time.

:waa:   Nice to see I'm not alone in liking Cars though. I'm well aware I'm in a minority here, Gimli. Like I said, I'm not faulting the animation, just the story. I can't say I liked it when I didn't just to please people. If anything, I think it's healhy when we get different opinions here.

Did you at least like the opening short, Presto??

Aeon- 07-20-2008

Hell, yeah... I loved it!

Hell, yeah... I loved it! That's good then!! ;)

Mamma Mia! - Camp and ridiculous with a cast that can barely sing... I absolutely loved it! Enjoyment is enhanced if you are an ABBA fan. The story itself is somewhat thin, but then it never sets out to be more than what it is. The entire cast seem to be having a ball especially two fellows in the chorus... Downside is the bad singing, Brosnan being the worst by far. His songs were truly painful to witness. The direction also seemed amateurish and failed to take advantage of the spectacular scenery. Skarsgård, Baranski and Walters provide comic relief and Streep provides another "Meryl Streep Performance ©" Colin Firth doesn't have much to do, but he does get wet wearing a white shirt... :loveblush: In short, it's fantastic fun and stay behind for the credits for a very funny encore! I can't wait for the inevitable singalong showings!

Colin Firth doesn't have much to do, but he does get wet wearing a white shirt... :loveblush: Hmm, similiar to what he did over a decade ago in BBC's Pride & Prejudice!! I never thought of that until now!! :P

One trick pony... :D :D

Braveheart (4th view) - Historical accuracy be damned, this is a rousing action/adventure epic. I'm not really all that familar with exactly how it differs from the truth, but that seems to be the biggest problem people have with the film. It's quite hard to see Wallace as a character, and not look beyond Mel Gibson doing his crazy eyes acting in a kilt, but behind the camera he has a great eye for action. It's been a while since I saw it and I'd forgot how violent it was. The Stirling Bridge battle makes many similar scenes in films since seem quite tame by comparison. I love James Horners score, and there's fantastic support from Brendan Gleeson, Brain Cox, Ian Bannen ( ), Patrick McGoohan (almost as good as Alan Rickman's Sheriff in the "boo hiss" bad guy stakes), David O'Hara, Sophie Marceau and James Cosmo. Near the end it all gets quite emotional as well. Great stuff, unfairly criticised in my eyes - 5/5
