It's a great experience. Now I'm waiting for the time when I can watch them all back to back! It's been a few years since I last did so.
I seem to remember doing that last Christmas holiday when I was off work. I thought it worked really well as a complete piece...it took a while though :D

Not if you're laying on the sofa it doesn't :D
Admittedly it does require a certain amount of moving about so you're not in the same position for too long...and I also cheated slightly by making lunch inbetween disc 1 and 2 of The Two Towers

Mr. Sheep your weekend of DVD watching was rather good as well! :)
The disc swap-overs in LOTR are great for stretching your legs and having a drink. I think watching them back to back in straight 3 and a 1/2 hour chunks might be pushing it a bit (yet if they showed them continuously tomorrow at he cinema, I'd be first in the queue :D ). The worst thing about the swap is that the first discs all see to end rather abruptly, especially in the case of The Return Of The King.

I thank you, I did enjoy it, I have to say. :D
I always thought that part one of Fellowship ends at quite a good place (with Pippin asking "Where are we going?"), it was The Two Towers that I found ended very, very abruptly (I actually thought there was a fault with a disc on that one).

I'm not sure where to put this so I'm going to post it here. This has been bugging me since I bought At World's End, it's nothing to do with the film but more the extras contained on the DVD. All three films have been released on 2 Disc editions, the first one contained three different commentaries along with a second disc of pretty good extras (along with a completely hilarious archive film of Walt Disney talking about the ride). The second film contained just the one commentary track which was still very good and very informative. It also had a second disc of pretty good extras including two in-depth documentaries made for the DVD. I was hoping for more of the same where At World's End was concerned, how disappointed I was to discover that it has no commentary track at all and a second disc full of naff featurettes that look like they've been lifted from made for TV behind the scenes shows. Was the film so unsuccessful that Disney couldn't be arsed to come up with a decent set of extras or are they just trying to save money? Whatever the reason, and ignoring the fact that I bought it for less than £9.00 in Asda, in most shops they are charging just as much for this film as for the other two (when they were originally released) and yet are including extras that are well below par. It's a shame that the best film of the three gets lumbered with the worst set of additional material on the DVD. This post has no real point other than just me getting that off my chest.

Once to watch the film and a second time with the very informative, if a little lifeless, commentary.
