Whats yer poison?
How about a thread dedicated to the cause and solution to most of lifes little problems, your friend and mine. Alceyhol! So as the title says, 'whats yer poison?' Mines a nicely aged single malt whiskey. My fave being Laphraig {sp?} cask conditioned. It has a nice smokey taste and is very nice and smooth on the way down.

Never got into whisk(e)y - it's a very acquired taste, and I haven't acquired it yet. I don't drink a lot but if I'm down the pub, then it's ale all the way. If I'm at a bar, then it's vodka with a mixer - either coke, or oj. If I'm at home, then I like port and coke. Christmas time, port and brandy is brilliant together. Most of the time, my poison is just Coke - and it's definitely poison! Just remember folk, if you have to mix your drinks, it's 'grain before grape'!

See! They missed that opportunity in the film. Stoopid bloody Elizabeth Swann. How could she burn it all?! Heathen.

Another ale drinker! What's your favourite DF?

dragonfall- 01-06-2008

Hmmm. My bog-standard pint would probably be London Pride or Directors (if you can find it). I do like Cain's beer but you can never find it down south. They did a special brew years ago called Mayflower, which was flavoured with elderflower. Sounds weird but actually tasted fantastic. My favourite beer of all time is something called Pendragon. They had it as a guest beer once in a pub in Winchester I used to go to. Thsi was proper stuff, served straight out of a cask behind the bar. Really dark, really thick and tasted wonderful. It was very strong and gave you one heck of a hangover though.

Waggledance is great - made with a bit of honey, but fortunately tastes nothing like mead (had some on New Year's Eve, for the first and last time!). Banana Bread Beer is great, if you like bananas. You can't taste the bananas until you've swallowed, and there's like an aftertaste. Nice. Wychwood do some great ales, Hobgoblin is nice - made with chocolate malt which while you can't taste the chocolate, leaves a nice sweetness in your mouth. Fiddler's Elbow is nice in the summer - nice and light, and organic too. I like ale...

dragonfall- 01-06-2008

Yeah, waggleance and hobgoblin are good. Haven't tried the others. Banana bread sounds a bit odd. Had some really nice beer last year in Swansea. Don't know what it was called cos it was err..in welsh. I just had to keep pointing at the tap and asking for a pint of 'that'

Homer- 01-06-2008

heh. It's fun when you ask for a pint of Brains. Sounds all zombie-like...

Bobatim- 01-06-2008

Don't mind a decent pint of Ale myself. Homer and Dragonfall, have you tried Honeydew? It's a bit like Waggledance but a little sweeter and smoother.

Have to check it out. Where is it available? Local Asda, Sainsbury, or is it more of a Waitrose sort of ale? :D
